The Minnesota Magicians (10-6-2) hosted another 2-game home series over the weekend, going 1-1 against the Springfield Jr. Blues (6-11-1) and holding onto 2nd place in the NAHL’s Midwest Division. Up next, the Magicians host the Cloquet Wilderness on Wednesday, November 9th at 7:00 PM at Richfield Ice Arena before heading to La Crosse, Wisconsin to face the Coulee Region Chill on November 11th.
On Friday night, the Magicians lit the lamp early and often against the Jr. Blues. After Springfield scored the first goal of the game, it was Farmington native John Siebenaler hitting the board for the Magicians to tie the game (Assist: Andrew Kangas). Next, Will Hammer (Mitch Slattery, Travis Brown) gave the Magicians a brief lead before the Jr. Blues tied the game before the intermission. From there, Minnesota dominated the play. In the second period, back to back goals from Travis Brown (Nikita Kozyrev, Matt Denman) and Mitch Slattery (Travis Brown, Nathan Nelsen) gave the Magicians a 4-2 advantage heading into the game’s final period. In the third, Timo Walther (Travis Brown, Nathan Nelsen) added some insurance on what would be the game’s final goal. Goaltender Ivan Prosvetov made 25 saves in the 5-2 victory.
On Saturday, the guns fell silent for the Magicians as they lost a close 2-1 contest in the rematch. Minnesota was unable to find the back of the net until late in the game’s final period when Caleb Hite (Pieter Von Steinbergs, David Kirkendall) cut Springfield’s 2-0 lead in half. The Magicians were unable to put another puck past the Jr. Blues netminder the rest of the way and the weekend series ended in a split between the two teams.
This week, the Magicians have a home game at 7:00 PM on Wednesday night as the Cloquet Wilderness visit Richfield Ice Arena.
