Weekend Recap: Magicians Take Two of Three from the Brown Bears


The Magicians continued their Alaskan road trip by taking on the Kenai River Brown Bears for a three-game set. The Magicians suffered their first loss of the road trip on Thursday night. The Brown Bears were able to take game one 4-2.On Friday night, the Magic bounce back. They needed overtime but John Keranen scored in the extra time to give the Magicians the 5-4 win.

Saturday the Magicians were a dominant team and Brown Bears had no chance of stopping them. They capped off the weekend with a 5-2 victory to take two of three from the Kenai River. The Magicians finished their Alaskan road trip 4-1-0 and now are tied for 2nd in the Midwest Division standings.

3 Stars of the Weekend:

1st Star John Keranen (3G 2A) – It was a huge weekend for the Delano native, John Keranen. He started his scoring with an assist on Thursday night but on Friday he was the hero. He had two goals and assist including the game-winning goal in overtime.

2nd Star Cameron Buhl (2G 1A) – The former South St. Paul Packer, Cam Buhl netted two goals and added an assist in Friday night’s win. He now has six points in his last four games.

3rd Star Brendan Skarda (3A) – Once a Minnetonka Skipper, Brendan Skarda has been a consistent point scorer all year for the Magic. He continued this weekend with his passing, tallying 3 assists including a two-assist night on Friday.

Kyler Grundy – 1 goals 2 assist

Matt Denman – 3 assists

Jarret Lee – 2 goals

What’s Next?

After five straight games in Alaska, the Magicians will now head to Wisconsin for three games to complete their eight-game road trip. Next up will be the Janesville Jets, who currently sits on top of the Midwest Division, then to Coulee Region for one before coming back to Richfield. The Magicians will finally return home, November 10th and 11th against the Minnesota Wilderness. On the 10th the Magicians will be hosting a Diaper Drive for the Diaper Bank of Minnesota to help supply diapers for families in need.
