Richfield, MN- The Minnesota Magicians were back on home ice for the first time this year this past weekend against the Janesville Jets. The Jets, who sit in third place in the Midwest division, have proved to be tough competition for the Magi in the past, but returned to Wisconsin being swept.
Goaltender Jack Robbel of Bloomington, MN started in net for the Magicians on Friday, facing 34 shots over the course of the game. Janesville put themselves on the board with goals late in the second period and early in the third, but couldn’t match the Magicians strength. Matt Stanton scored in the first period, assisted by Carter Breitenfeldt and Jake Hale (Minneapolis, MN) to set the tone for the game. Stanton’s goal was followed by a power play goal in the second period, scored by Captain and recent West Point Army Commit, John Keranen. Keranen was assisted by Stanton and Andrew Kruse.
Less than one minute into the third period veteran forward Cam Buhl increased the Magicians lead, with assists being credited to Parker Larson (Moorhead, MN) and Tino Passarelli. Keranen doubled the lead with his second goal of the game, assisted by Kruse and Passarelli. The final Magicians goal came from #14, Carter Breitenfeldt, assisted by Jake Hale and Colin Stein (Pewaukee, WI).
Saturday’s game was full of back and forth action between the Magicians and Jets, and resulted in the two teams ending the game in a shootout. Ethan Haider was in net for the Magicians, facing 27 shots through three periods, overtime and three rounds of shootout. The Magicians won with a final score of 5-4, with goals from veteran Chris Konin, assisted by Ben Schultheis (Mt. Juliet, TN) and Colin Stein. The second goal of the first period came from John Keranen, assisted by Nick Lanigan (Duluth, MN) and Cameron Buhl, a recent commit to the University of Alaska-Anchorage. Newcomer Jake Hale scored his second goal as a Magician, assisted by Dawson Klein and Matt Stanton.
The final goal of regulation came from Passarelli, with assists going to Keranen and Buhl. Chris Konin shot first for the Magi, followed by recent addition, TJ Sagissor. Jake Seitz scored the game winning goal in the third round, and completed the sweep of the Jets.
The Magicians will be back in action at the Richfield Ice Arena on February 1st against the Austin Bruins.
